Welcome to the B.I.G.* Competition

Did you ever wonder how Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Colonel Sanders and others started out? An idea, experimentation and persistence describe most of their efforts! Now, there’s a chance to take an idea you have for a product, or for improvement of a service or production methodology and begin the process of making an idea reality.

The "B. I. G.* Competition — *Business Ideas Gone wild competition" — offers an opportunity to compete for prizes which provide not only monetary rewards, but chances to advance ideas through the use of contest prizes including prototyping, business plan development, logo design, etc.

The contest is open to all individuals, 18 and over, who reside in one of the following 6 Pennsylvania counties — Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter. The contest begins August 1, 2009; all applications must be submitted electronically by midnight, Monday, September 14, 2009. Entries will be reviewed by a B.I.G.* Competition panel of judges who will select semi-finalists by Friday, September 21, 2009. The grand prize winner and other finalists will be announced at the award dinner scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2009. The award dinner occurs during Global Entrepreneurship Week, a growing movement to foster the development of new ideas and to seek better ways of doing things.

The B.I.G.* Competition business contest is a joint effort of the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission, Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce and the Office for Technology Transfer at Penn State DuBois. The KIZ grew out of efforts of the North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission, the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce and Penn State DuBois to create an environment where collaboration and forward-thinking could be nurtured and supported. The designation of the Zone serves as an impetus to create the environment needed for the exploration of marketable ideas, the start-up of new companies and the commercialization of new technologies. The competition was created as the next in a series of efforts to nurture idea creation, to make consulting services available to local entrepreneurs, and to spur the development of a culture of innovation in the area.
